A Harvard Social Psychologist Discovered A Magic Word That Increases Your Persuasive Power By More Than 90% While Lining Up To Use The Copy Machine!

Dear Friend,

I know that you know that being persuasive is a key skill that must be developed in our lives. Why? Because all of us uses it. In a sense, you may be persuaded or persuasive, which side do you choose?

Of course you want to be persuasive. 

But the problem is, when you do not know you are being persuaded by an addition of a single word to a statement said to you.

You may ask in an astounding tone; what? 

Just an addition of a single word you can be persuaded by someone?

Yes that is correct!

Now, why not you use this magic word rather than it may be used to you? Right? I think you agree. It is common for humans to aspire to be a persuasive person than be the persuaded. It has an advantage that someone bend to your liking.

To whom you can use this persuasive word? A magic word? Well, you can use this to your....


Family

Your toddler is a very persuasive human being. And you cannot do nothing about it. You are always oblige to do what your toddler wants you to do.

Now, what I am saying about your toddler is that he is superb in this persuasion business. You cannot use this magic word to your toddler because he is not prone to this because he cannot understand some words and not capable of granting a wish. 

So, with the exception of your toddler if you have one, your spouse, children (who can already understand you), father, mother, grand parents, uncle, aunt, and cousins you can use this magic word. 

You can use this magic word to your immediate family members because according to studies, we humans have an automatic compliance when this magic word is used to us.

How you can use this magic word? 

By using the magic word....
  • you can ask your spouse to a dinner because this will straighten your bond with each other.
  • you can request a special thing like a new I-phone for example, that you are longing to have because this will make you happy.
  • you can order your children to do something to their betterment because you know what is good for them.
  • you can request your grand children , sons and daughters to visit you because you can have good memories with them before you depart in this world (we know that all of us will leave this world, capisce?).
  • you can request a favor to your uncle or aunt because they love you like their own child.
  • you can invite your cousin to your birthday or any event that is important in your life because will produce a memory in your emotional bank account.
Now let us go out in your family and see where you can use the magic word, let us see in your ....


Business and Work

To get ahead in your business or in your working environment or in your career, you must be persuasive in your dealings because this will pave the way to what you plan and do. So, how can you use the magic word? In using the magic word....

  • you  can invite your clients to a dinner because you can ease the business transaction through the reciprocity rule.
  • you can have an important request to your boss or colleague because it can help to advance your goals and assigned task.
  • you can sell yourself to a company when you are looking for a job because finding a job is selling yourself, your capabilities and qualifications, to the company.
  • you can give advice to your customers or clients because by being a resource person you become valuable than the product you represent.

Friends

Your friends are very critical to us as a social being in this planet because of them we can say that we are truly human. 

We share our emotions and experiences. 

We even we seek their advise on different matters of life, career, parenting, relationship, health, etc. 

If we really need a friend, we must have many moments that we share with them. The more time we share with them the tighter the emotional bond with them with you. 

Now, how would you strengthen your bond with your friends? 

You do know? 

Of course you do. 

You know that to have more time with them, you must convince them to share with you your endeavors in your life.The magic word can be used to strengthen the bond between your friends and you.

In using the magic word....

  • you can invite your friends over lunch or dinner because this will create a memory for both of you.
  • you can influence your friends to a charity event or in any endeavor of yours because you think you share a common advocacy in life.
  • you can can ask your favorite game because this can be a fun memory even it is just for fun.
  • you can ask a favor to your friend because you had made a favor in the past, or you are willing to give a favor next time.
  • you can request your friend to be with you in some errands because you serve each others errands.
There you have it, what I mentioned are what you can do with the magic word.

What is this magic word?

In introducing the magic word, I want to start in a....


Harvard Study

In 1978, there was an experiment conducted by Ellen Langer at Harvard, she conducted an experiment about the power of the word "because".  She set up people to break in the line waiting to use a busy copy machine on a college campus. She had different specifically worded request:

  1. "Excuse me, I have five (5) pages. May I use the xerox machine?"
  2. "Excuse me, I have five (5) pages. May I use the xerox machine, because I have to make copies?
  3. "Excuse me, I have five (5) pages. May I use the xerox machine, because I am in a rush?"


The result of compliance were as follows:  1.  60 percent , 2. 94 percent 3. 93 percent , the results showed that there was very little difference to the statements that used "because"

This study was presented by Cialdini in his book Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion. He also finds that human beings has an automatic compliance like the mother turkey that recognize the "cheep" "cheep" sound as her chicks. To see my article about it, >>click here<<

We are always responding in compliance with a reason-why. The word because is a form of reason-why. We are always ready to comply to a request when you use the word because

For example:

  • Please fix your bedding when you wake up
  • Please fix your bedding when you wake up because it will brighten your whole day

  • May I drop by at your office this afternoon?
  • May I drop by at your office this afternoon because I have something important to discuss with you?

  • Come at around 6pm to our house for dinner.
  • Come at around 6pm to our house for dinner because my mom will cook a special meal.

Did you feel the effect of because?

In my bullets above when I discuss about family, business and work and friends, did you notice that I used the word because? 

Even that the reason is not so strong it creates a more persuasive statement. 

It is because of our nature to automatic compliance.

Now that you know it. Use it for your advantage and be aware when somebody uses it because you may see who is the persuader and the persuaded.

See?

I know you got it because it is now obvious.

I can not stop using this word because.

Use it even in this trying times because you need persuasion skills to survive and save others by warning how COVID-19 can inflict danger in our lives.
